MULTITEL PAGLIERO: AN INCREASINGLY INTERNATIONAL, INTEGRATED AND MULTICULTURAL COMPANY

In the two-year period 2021-2023, Multitel Pagliero’s development in international markets was accompanied by significant growth in its workforce, which went from 337 people in 2021 (315 in Italy, 22 abroad) to the current 551 people: 524 in Italy, 27 abroad. It could not have been otherwise given the demand that materialised in a production effort able to cause problems for even the most well “protected” company organisation:

That amounts to almost 50 machines produced per week, all the while maintaining each department’s high standards of quality: all thanks to a professionally trained, cohesive, integrated and driven organisational structure. Integration is certainly a determining factor in Multitel Pagliero’s success and can be seen in three elements: the growing presence of women in all areas, the average age of the workforce and the diversity of non-EU personnel. The company has long been committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive work environment where all employees have equal access to opportunities for professional development and growth, regardless of their gender and sexual orientation, nationality, religion, age, physical abilities, political preferences, marital status, etc. The same goes for gender differences in terms of pay and the possibility of holding positions of responsibility.

GROWTH OF FEMALE STAFF IN ALL SECTORS

The number of women employed by Multitel Pagliero has increased significantly over the past three years, and now there are 60 women (11% of the total) working in almost all the plants and sectors of the company, from “traditional” administrative tasks to production-related areas, with the exception of those requiring heavy lifting.

At M1, pre-delivery checks are carried out and Modula is based there with the automated warehouse. Here there are 3 women employed in the warehouse and 2 on machine finishing: the latter are responsible for cleaning the vehicles, touching up paint, greasing, and positioning stickers and labels.
At M3 is the production centre for platforms from 30 to 70 metres, finishing of those from 3.5 t and assembly of hybrids and special models. There are 7 women employed for machine cleaning, touching up paint, greasing and positioning stickers and labels.
At M5, assembly and calibration are carried out to ensure perfect functioning of the platforms. There are 6 women who assemble small mechanical components plus another woman who deals with testing.
At M6 is the wiring and control panel assembly centre where there are 11 women who prepare electrical boxes, wiring and electrical connections.
At M7, a high-tech centre with robots for laser cutting and plasma cutting, there are 3 women who upload timesheets to the system and also deal with wiring electrical cables.

A woman was recently elevated to a position with more responsibility and appointed as the first tester for machines weighing up to 3.5 t. After completing her training, she joined the team of 15 testers and is now in charge of evaluating the platform’s overall functioning as well as checking tyre, hydraulics and pressure registers. The highest concentration of female staff – 27 – is in the management building, where the switchboard and the testing and safety, logistics, production, foreign/Italian sales, marketing, personnel and administration offices are located.

A YOUNG, INTEGRATED AND MULTICULTURAL COMPANY

Undoubtedly, Multitel Pagliero’s success can be attributed in part to its ability to innovate and reinvent itself. Without this, it would have been impossible to reach the milestone of 113 years of history and look to the future with optimism. The average age of 35 – with 37% under 30 – strikes the ideal balance between young resources and highly experienced employees. The majority of employment contracts are permanent (69.5%) and full time (98%), preventing significant turnover by encouraging the creation of stable work groups and enduring relationships between the employer and employees. Organisational stability is accompanied by the real possibility of making a career and taking on roles of greater responsibility: a combination that improves productivity and the direction of company activities. Stability and growth are guaranteed by a solid welfare network, a series of production bonuses and initial training on being hired and for updating. These are factors that favour the integration between European and non-European staff – certainly facilitated by the large presence of under-30s and by inclusion-promoting programmes like language courses and the “Listening Desk” for assistance on any issue, even matters not strictly related to work.

THE COMMENT

Angela Gennarino Human Resources Manager Multitel Pagliero

In an increasingly competitive job market, finding qualified personnel is a constant challenge. Multitel Pagliero works on two goals to combat this: first, improving the conditions to maintain high levels of satisfaction and well-being among employees; second, advertising the company through school meetings, participation in recruitment events and guided tours of our plants for older children.

Multitel Pagliero has 113 years of history and, up until three years ago, the average age of our staff was rather high. However, the recent huge selection process, which led to the entry of colleagues with recent diplomas and recent degrees, has significantly lowered the average. This has made the company a more dynamic and youthful environment, where new colleagues are making strong contributions in their various areas of expertise. With enthusiasm and a desire to learn from the most experienced, they help to enrich the skills of the entire group.

Among the new arrivals, we can count on about a hundred non-EU colleagues who have been welcomed and assimilated into the various factories, increasing their professionalism and, in some cases, taking on roles of responsibility. Lastly, given that the metalworking industry has historically only included men, the growing number of women working at Multitel Pagliero is a source of great pride.
